The most common question we hear at the front desk is some version of “Is cryotherapy as brutal as it looks?” The short answer: no. The long answer is this post. Here’s exactly what happens when you step into the Everest cryo chamber at Hopson Health Wellness Center in Coral Springs.
Before you step in
You’ll change into dry socks, slippers and gloves (we provide them) and keep your undergarments or shorts on. No jewelry, no damp clothing, no lotion – moisture is the one thing we’re strict about. A team member checks you in, walks you through the chamber controls and stays right outside the door the whole time.
Who it’s for
Our regulars are a mix: weekend warriors from Parkland and Coconut Creek, CrossFit and BJJ athletes, runners training for the Miami Marathon, and plenty of people who just want to feel less stiff in the morning. If you have a heart condition, are pregnant, or have circulation issues, talk to your doctor first and tell our staff – we’ll point you to a different Core Recovery service.
The three minutes
The Everest chamber is a full-body, walk-in unit – your head is inside, breathing normal room-temperature air through the vent. The temperature drops fast and a fog of cold vapor rolls in. Here’s the honest timeline:
- 0–30 seconds: “Okay, this is cold.” Your skin tightens and you start to feel it on your thighs and forearms.
- 30–90 seconds: The body adapts. Most people are chatting with us through the window by now. Music helps – ask for your playlist.
- 90 seconds–3 minutes: A calm, alert feeling. Breathing slows. Then the door opens and you’re done.
Because the exposure is dry cold rather than ice water, it feels far more tolerable than an ice bath – which is why people who swore they’d never try it end up coming three times a week.
After: the part everyone talks about
As your body rewarms, blood flow returns to the skin and muscles and most clients describe a rush of energy and a noticeable drop in soreness. Many of our members use cryotherapy for:
- Post-workout muscle soreness and recovery between training days
- A natural energy and mood boost (a popular mid-afternoon stop for people who work nearby on Wiles Road)
- General inflammation and stiffness management
- Better sleep when used consistently
Cryotherapy is a Core Recovery service, which means it’s included in the Hopson Recovery Club ($149/month, unlimited, up to three services per day). Most members pair it with compression boots or the infrared sauna in the same visit.
